Samma-Ajiva Garden Buddhas
We offer a large selection of cast and carved stone Buddhas, designed to live outside in your garden or inside your home, as well as a small collection of fine wood images and other treasures.
We search for statues that radiate feelings of peace, joy, compassion, humor and beauty and we are pleased to offer a growing selection of Buddhas, Quan Yins, Monks, Jizos, Ho Tais. etc., in a variety of materials and patinas.
Samma-Ajiva means Right or Beneficial Livelihood in Pali, the language of the first written teachings of Gatama Buddha. We chose it to serve as a constant reminder that the work we do for a livelihood gives us joy and peace if it is synonomous with what we love and of benefit to all beings involved.
We pay royalties to the carvers on each piece we commission and cast. Many of our statues are cast in small, owner operated shops in USA .

The Origin of Samm-Ajiva Buddhas
The seed of SAMMA-AJIVA BUDDHAS was planted when I was a child, in the form of the most prized possession in our household, a Ming Dynasty Kuan Yin, the female form of the Buddha of Compassion. She radiated the much needed feelings of deep calm and presence, as well as an elegance.
When I began to travel in Southeast Asia, I looked everywhere for a Buddha that had her qualities. What I found was that, while there were thousands of Buddhas in all kinds of materials and manefestions, few had the inspiring beauty and peace that one looks for in a Buddha and the exquisite ones I did find I were not available without the assistance of a small family fortune.
From this problem sprouted the desire to find/commission/create beautiful Buddhas, in male and female forms and to make them available for affordable prices. The many ideas for Samma-Ajiva Buddhas began to grow.
At last, in a temple, I found what was to me the quintessential Buddha. With a deep feeling of satisfaction, I took photos of him and took them to one of the finest carver I know, who among other things, carves sacred masks for the temple ceremonies in his village. He did his own interpretation of this delightful image and brought it to life in the form of the 15” Burmese Buddha Mandalay style and the Burmese Buddha Mask that we are casting today.
Since then our selection has continued to grow as this carver and many others have created new Buddhas for us. I now work with many wonderful people, including Garden Of Dreams in California, who oversee the production and distribution of the cast statues.
