Product Information for Samma-Ajiva Cast Buddhas

Materials And Care Information:

SAMMA-AJIVA cast Buddhas are designed for use outside in your garden or inside your home. CASTING makes it possible to consistently reproduce our very best original Buddhas, generally at prices far below that of the originals. Our statues are cast in small owner operated shops in the United States. The statues are copyrighted to protect the investment of time and money from many people have put into making these exceptional pieces available.

The Materials We Use:

Resin

Colors:The patinas we offer are Rust (R) and Bronze (B)

SAMMA-AJIVA offers products hand cast in resin. We use resin because it is an extremely durable material for use indoors or outdoors. Resin makes it possible to accurately cast fine details not possible in cement and is lighter, facilitating easier and less expensive shipping.

Patinas

We offer 2 patinas, bronze and rust. Both processes involve the use of the actual metals, bronze and steel. Thus the patina can change over time, reflecting its own unique environment. The steel undergoes a further hand finishing process, which gives it a warm, lovely rust patina. This process enhances the beauty of the statue and will not harm the product. However, there is the potential of the statues staining the surface that they are placed on. To reduce the likelihood of this, a sealer is recommended.

Placement Of Statues

We recommend that you place these statues in a location where you would like to sit, protected from strong environmental forces such as heat, wind, and rain. Measurements are approximate. Please check with us if exact measurements are important.

Why do we cast some of the Buddha’s we offer?

Casting make it possible to place these Buddhas either outside or inside. It also eliminates several problems.

1. It is not possible or desirable to reproduce the same piece with the same quality and spirit over and over again in carved wood. Excellent quality work requires an energy that usually does not come through in piece after piece in production work, yet this energy does come through in the cast pieces.
2. Good quality wood, which does not crack is generally slow growing hardwoods from the rain forests and by casting our pieces, we limit the amount of these woods that we use.
3. Casting reduces the cost of these pieces, usually to a fraction of what the original would be.
4. By we cast our own statues, we can oversee working conditions. We are casting most of our Buddhas in a small, owner operated shop in California.

We often find originals and cast statues as well as other works of art that that we find irresistable, but not appropriate for us to reproduce. When it is possible, we make these available on the web site and/or at Garden of Dreams, Desert Hot Springs, California.

We are deeply grateful for all the extraordinary people and events, know and unknown, that support SAMMA-AJIVA. The process of bringing these Buddhas to reality offers many valuable lessons in its difficulties. But most of all, is truly a JOY.
